iPhone OS 4.0 will support multi-touch gestures and multi-tasking

Apple will show us the latest creation on Jan 27th, and many sources said Apple will show us the Apple Tablet (aka iSlate), iPhone OS 4.0 update and iLife 2010. Being an iPhone user, I am really concerned about the iPhone OS 4.0 update. Source said the trusted insider told them the iPhone OS 4.0 will support multi-touch gestures. It also said the iPhone OS 4.0 will have the new way to run applications in background. Do you mean Apple finally knows multi-tasking is important?

The user interface may also be improved and refreshed. Only the iPhone 3G and 3GS will be able to get the update. Here is the complete list:

1. There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
2. “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
3. Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
4. The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
5. The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.
